Sacred Heart Catholic School

Low-Tech Policy

At Sacred Heart Catholic School, we intentionally maintain a low‑tech learning environment that prioritizes focus, human connection, and hands‑on discovery. Students in grades 5–8 participate in a single 35‑minute computer literacy class twice a week, ensuring they gain essential skills for the world beyond our doors while keeping technology in its proper place.

Classroom learning remains grounded in books, discussion, and active engagement. Teachers do not assign homework that requires internet access, and computers or smart boards are used only on rare occasions to support instruction. There are no desktop computers in classrooms, and students do not use devices during study hall, recess, or after‑school enrichment.

This approach reflects our belief that children learn best through meaningful interaction—with their teachers, with each other, and with the rich, real world around them.
